I'm walking to keep
Africa Alive!

Dear Friends & Prospective Supporters,
Once again, I have been moved to do some “community service” to help solve a community problem. As many of you know, over the years, I have been a supporter and/or walked to raise money and awareness for various causes, including for the American Heart Association, the fight to combat HIV/AIDS, breast cancer, leukemia and lymphoma, lupus, and many others. I feel blessed that at 85 years of age, my own beloved mother and her twin sister are relatively healthy. Not so for a thirteen year old niece of mine recently diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. So, I participate in the various fundraisers because I am constantly touched by the plight and courage of my family, community of friends and colleagues who grapple daily with the challenges of serious illness and currently incurable afflictions.
This time, my sense of community
is taking me all the way to Africa, a beautiful continent that I had the
pleasure of visiting for the first time
almost two years ago, and as many
of you know is my husband’s homeland. I was shocked to discover
that my extended community of fellow human beings “enjoy” a life
expectancy that is less than 60 years on average. And that while they
live, they are beset by a variety of problems, including frequent bouts with
malaria, cholera, high infant and maternal mortality and stunted growth.
I was happy to learn that, as in the U.S., I could do something to make a positive impact on reducing the problem and improving the lives of those who need support. Please join me in any way you can—by registering to walk or run or by sponsoring me to reach my goal to raise $5,000.
Many thanks for your support!
