Walking the talk, that’s what I hope to do come September 28 with the Accra International Marathon. A Ghanaian and father of two grown kids, I know it’s important to set a good example for my children and my fellow Ghanaians about contributing to the solution of Africa’s problems. Along with education, health is a major problem, and I dare say a crisis, for Africa now.
Aside from raising two kids in the States, which, if you ask me, should qualify as some kind of endurance event, I have never done a marathon before. Like many of my friends in the Sacramento Ghanaian community, I am sometimes overwhelmed when I consider the terrible health conditions that send many of us to too many funerals back home. Sometime, the problems seem so huge that we just shake our heads and go on with the press of earning our daily bread. But, as the saying goes, a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
The Longevity Project has taken an important step to increase the life expectancy and quality of life of Africans. I believe it is worthy of support, and I believe we can all play a part in ensuring that the Project succeeds in its mission. Please join me in fact or in spirit by registering for the walk or run and/or by pledging me.
